KE PHOTOGRAPHERS 2008

To keep things simple, we are doing 4 broad categories of work:
  1. Hall Events (Feb-Mar 2008)
  2. IHG Photography (now)
  3. Photo exhibition (march 2008)
  4. Yearbook photo collection (March-April 2008)

We sinerely hope you can give it your best effort. If everyone does a small part, we all achieve more.

Here's what we will need to prepare for:

2) Exhibition (prepare by January, set up in February, run in March)
3) Subsequent Hall events - Hall Play, Dinner and Dance, etc.

Details to come soon.

Cheers,

Get a Personal Photo Site

Hello KE Photographers,

I encourage each of you to get your own photo site. This will be good for you to showcase your photographs, and have a sense of pride and achievement in your own photography. Furthermore, it will be a means for you to have your photos critiqued and a way for you to improve.

May I suggest these two sites:

http://www.flickr.com
http://www.multiply.com

Flickr is a great place to view other people's photographs and learn from the pros, as many of them are professional photographers and graphic designers. There is much you can learn from observing their works. Flickr offers a free account, which is very good funcionality but is limited in a few ways.

Multiply is good for storage of photos for display/sharing with friends as it is both FREE and UNLIMITED. However, it is not as avant garde as Flickr, in my opinion. It is very easy to use and highly recommended though.

Looking forward to our next meeting.

Cheers,
jonk

Training Objectives for Session 1 and 2

Session 1
The camera as a Light Box
Understanding Exposure
Correct exposures vs Over/Under exposure
Exposure is controlled by:
- aperture – which also determines depth of field
- shutter speed - which allows you to freeze action, or show motion; may lead to BLURRING (wanted/unwanted)
- ISO – how sensitive the sensor is to light; increasing it allows shooting faster but increases grain

Session 2
Review of Exposure
Answering of any questions you might have
How to take a photo: Look, Focus, Shoot
Focussing
Metering
White Balance

THE TRAINING PROGRAMME

The Training Programme will be a single 3h course (with break) which will focus on all major aspects of practical photogrpahy. Call it a crash course, if you may.

It will begin with the very concept of photography and light, and you will then learn about the camera and how it enables you to capture moments through light. You wiill be taught how to capture these moments effectively and in a way that communicates what you wish to exprss to your audience. Furthermore, it will focus on practical situations which you will encounter as a hall photographer, and in most situations which you will be taking photographs in.

This will be followed by a Q & A session, and we will meet again to review what you have learn, and what you have been able to apply.

For those unable to make it for the First Photography Training Programme, I will schedule a repeat programme which I will personally conduct for your benefit. Please try to make it if you can.

- Jonk.
